French electrical equipment manufacturer Jeumont Electric has secured an important contract with Swedish defense company Saab to supply the main electric propulsion systems for the Polish Navy’s future A26 PL submarines, procured under the Orka programme.

According to the company’s announcement, Jeumont Electric will deliver three complete electric propulsion systems to equip the new Saab-built submarines. This commercial success represents a milestone for the French firm within the naval defense sector and highlights its continued partnership with Saab on high-profile international defense programs. Jeumont Electric also equips the Swedish Navy’s A26 submarines, known as the Blekinge-class, as well as the Saab-designed Collins-class submarines of the Royal Australian Navy.

While specific financial details of the propulsion contract were not disclosed, Jeumont Electric emphasized that the selection reaffirms the confidence Saab places in its technological expertise. The company noted that its propulsion solutions are specifically recognized for their high reliability and exceptionally low acoustic signatures. Acoustic discretion remains one of the most critical factors in maximizing the operational performance, survivability, and stealth capabilities of modern underwater platforms.

The Orka programme is Poland’s long-running sovereign initiative to recapitalize and modernize its subsurface fleet. Following a competitive evaluation process, Poland selected Saab to provide three customized A26 (Blekinge-class) submarines, with a firm order placed earlier this year. Securing major equipment suppliers such as Jeumont Electric is a key step as Saab moves forward with the production and integration phase for the Polish Navy.

“The continuation of our partnership with Saab as part of a sovereign programme of the scale of Orka demonstrates the value of our technological solutions,” Jeumont Electric stated. The manufacturer added that this latest contract further strengthens its position as a leading global supplier of critical equipment for submarine platforms.

As the Orka programme progresses, the integration of these advanced, low-signature electric drives will be central to ensuring the new Polish submarines can operate effectively and stealthily in the shallow waters of the Baltic Sea.
